It is true that, today, software advances permit us to achieve excellent visual effects, but many of them are excessively heavy for the common PCs and that is why we can notice a dramatic slowdown in the performance of our machines. First Impressions

Google Chrome 3.0.195.1 released with some extensions for auto-updating function. This week's update includes important parts for Windows, Mac and Linux. The significant improvements are as follows:

Changes for Windows:
• Form suggestions now shrink properly as the list of suggestions gets shorter.
• Extensions can now auto-update.
• Set the default minimum font size to 12 for Chinese and 10 for Japanese, Korean, Arabic and Thai.

Changes for Mac:
• Mac now supports drag and drop of URLs, plain text, and HTML into and out of the content area, as well as within text fields and the thumbnails on the new tab page. URLs can be dragged to and from other apps, the Finder/Desktop, and the Dock.
• Fix for download shelf crash when clearing all downloads.
• First cut at infobars.
• Add JavaScript Console menu item to View > Developer submenu.

Changes for Linux:
• Allow dragging a link from the web contents to the bookmark bar to get a named bookmark.

What we have here is a really solid and concise multi-protocol IM client. Once I downloaded the installer file I started the installation and I must admit that I was fairly surprised to find that Pidgin performs a somewhat involved setup process, which entails a lot of steps to be followed and various decisions to be made, but do not worry, options are easy to understand, and in the case you have any doubts, default settings are good enough. Anyway, I assume that this kind of entanglement comes from Pidgin's modular nature (most likely stems from its Linux origins). So, Pidgin installation consists of three sub-processes: Pidgin itself, consisting of Language Selection, Welcome window, License Agreement, Components selection and Location selection; the second process is GTK+ setup for which I had to select its installation location, and finally GNU Aspell setup which is dictionary and spellchecker functionality. Installing Winamp and getting it ready to run for the first time was a simple task, not very fast, I may say, since it involved so many steps to follow and several decisions to take, I mean, they were not complicated, but too many of them to my tastes, including options and search bars and some stuff other than Winamp (which I was actually trying to install).
