A Firefox App Store is Likely to Open Next Year!
In the coming 2010, Mozilla Firefox extend an Add-on Store, allowing developers to charge Firefox extension usages from users. Previously, In July of this year, Mozilla has launched a donation program for developers. Through that program, Firefox extension developers can get a certain amount of donations from users. For developers, this has been once the only one way to earn revenues in Firefox community. However, according to the latest evidences, in the coming 2010, Mozilla Foundation, will open a Firefox Add-on Store, which is called App Store, developers can charge users according to the Firefox extensions they used.
In fact, the idea to launch an App Store, to some extent, would promote the development by developers, and hold the Firefox enthusiasm well. Probably, some more amateur developers would think about to be full-time ones, as a consequence, the quality of extension, improves and strengthens. However, will this App Store satisfy all the users, developers and Firefox Foundation together? The answer is absolutely no. From free charges to the extended fees, these processes will more or less lead to sort of problems, such as the disparity between developers and ordinary users, and a low enthusiasm to Firefox.
By this, why Mozilla would consider the App Store? Does Mozilla want to draw out the relationship with users and focus more on extension users? There must be some reasons.
"Although users will not know how to react, but all the developers want Firefox extensions App Store on-line."Justin Scott said, the Mozilla product manager has analyzed the necessity, the developers wish so.
Secondly, it's from Google Chrome. Perhaps this is the key. Chrome has always been quite simple and fast, especially was getting more comprehensive with its online extension site launched on 9th, Dec, which undoubtedly cause Firefox's crisis awareness. In contrast, Chrome offers a better, safer, more convenient extension of the developer & user process, which is precisely what Firefox needs to improve.
Even Mozilla and Google have been very good partners, but the inevitable competition between two browsers has made the relationship increasingly tense. As we wish, the coming App Store will attract more developers, of course, the ultimate winners, are the users, benefiting the most.
