Learning Chinese is gaining a popular trend nowadays. Numerous Chinese Learning Softwares emerge in the markets among which some is good and some is bad. And ReadWrite Chinese, I think, counts among those which are good. Its “Learning List”, subgrouping the totally 1000 characters, is a considerate design which excellently eases your pressure in learning the most difficult language in the world. And its systematical exercise design is, somewhat, a repetitious way to enhance what you have learnt. However, it also has some petty defects, like, it includes no audio files.
Installation & Interface:
The installation progress takes just a few seconds. And as seen from the below screenshot, the installation interface is very clear and fresh, two cartoon white leopards playing on the left. It also uses a lively way to introduce the software’s developer, Declan Software, in light brown font. Anyway, the carefully details-handling way wins some users’ favor.

Below screenshot is the small icon of the desktop shortcut after the installation is completed. It’s a lovely yellow star.

Last month, it was reported that Apple was planning to integrate reprogrammable SIM cards into iPhones, cutting wireless carriers out of the activation process. On Sunday, Apple has abandoned the plan to create its own iPhone SIM cards for mobile operators threatened to stop selling the iconic device. At present mobile operators pay Apple the full £375 cost of the phone, which they pass on to consumers for free if they sign up for 24-month contracts.
A senior source at a mobile operator said: “Apple has long been trying to build closer and closer relationships and cut out the operators. But this time they have been sent back to the drawing board with their tails between their legs.”

Apple has “been sent back to the drawing board with their tails between their legs.” The company’s work on embedded SIM cards may not be entirely wasted, as the report also explains that future iPads may include the special SIM. The iPad is not subsidized by mobile carriers, and a reprogrammable SIM card would make it possible to activate the device at the point of purchase on a variety of carrier’s networks. Through retailer PC Mall,Microsoft is now giving free Symantec security software to small businesses for a limited time, following some grumbling in response to the free distribution of its own security software.
In October, Microsoft began offering small businesses free copies of Microsoft Security Essentials for as many as 10 PCs. It has also started letting customers download the software from Windows Update.
Panda Security and Trend Micro are among the companies that complained about Microsoft offering the security software free.

Panda suggested that Microsoft offer free antivirus software from a variety of companies as a way to prevent a security software monoculture that could make it easier for viruses to spread quickly.
It appears Microsoft is taking that suggestion, although not in partnership with Panda, and only through one retailer.
From Nov. 1 until Dec. 31, businesses that buy a new copy of Windows 7 Professional from PC Mall will also get a copy of Symantec EndPoint Protection Small Business Edition free. The offer is good for up to 50 PCs.

As the first Internet-wide instant messaging service, ICQ released its first version of the program in November 1996; it was first developed and popularized by the Israeli company Mirabilis, the name ICQ is come from the phrase “I seek you”. This is an adaptation of the Morse code callout “CQ”, which means “calling any station”. Mirabilis was acquired by AOL on June 8, 1998, with $407 million and AOL sold ICQ to Digital Sky Technologies for $187.5 million on April this year. Till now, ICQ has over 100 million registered accounts.
QQ, a free Instant Messaging, which means enjoying private chats with other QQ members in an one-on-one form or in group, anywhere in the world. As the most popular free instant messaging computer program in Mainland China, its simultaneous online accounts exceeds 122 million. QQ.com ranked 9th overall in Alexa’s internet rankings in October 2010, followed by Twitter.
Numbers tell everything. 100 million registered accounts and 122 million simultaneous online accounts are of great difference. So far, QQ already have 700 million registered accounts. What ‘s made QQ win the overwhelming victory? Maybe ICQ itself is the first one to blame.
At the preliminary stage, ICQ paid little attention to overseas market. It only published English version and patch throughout the world which gave other native companies opportunities to develop instant message software. Knowing that few people in China could read English at that time, so it was not easy for them to apply an English software without one Chinese word. Just then OICQ(now called QQ) emerged who just like a terminator to ICQ. After all for Chinese it is not worth learning a foreign language just for a IM tool. Read the rest of this entry »
