Five Most Tricky Gadgets for IT Giants in 2010

Posted in DVD & Video, News  by Eric

It is really a “bustling”year for IT industry. Apple shook things up with the iPhone 4 and completely rejuvenated the tablet market with the iPad. Android continued its strong growth in the smartphone market. However, there are still some gadgets that embarrassed these technical giants.

Apple TV

Apple TV started shipping three years ago. However, its large size , significantly high price and hard-drive to store media locally lead to relatively lacklustre sales. In Sepetember this year, Apple Inc. relaunched the device with a smaller size and cheaper price($99).

Recently, Apple Inc. announced that its second-generation Apple TV was expected to reach its one millionth sale. If the device continues to sell a million units per quarter, it would amount to $400 million in annual revenue, just a drop in the bucket for a company expected to earn $88 billion in revenue in its fiscal year 2011.

Steve Jobs, Apple’s chief executive, had previously called Apple TV “a hobby”. Well, a million sales is very tiny comparing with this giants’ strong sales of iPad and iPhone4.

Dell Aero

Launched in August this year, Dell Aero is the company’s first stab at the smartphone market (by Dell’s definitions, at least — the company released the Streak earlier, but it insists the 5-inch call-making device is a tablet and not a phone).

Since its launch,The Aero received many criticisms. It runs on Android 1.5,an early version of Google’s mobile operating system. For a brand new phone to be shipping with an out-dated version of Android is simply embarrassing, both to Dell and to the image of the Android.

GoogleTV

Google TV was co-developed by Google, Intel, Sony and Logitech. It integrates Google’s Android operating system and Google Chrome browser to create “a new experience for television”. Officially launched in October, Google TV has received weak reception. Major American networks have been reluctant to provide shows on Google TV. NBC, CBS, ABC and Hulu have blocked people from watching full-length shows on their Web sites using Google TV. Besides, its complex controller also scared away away many ordinary customers.

In December, Google has asked TV makers like Toshiba to delay the introduction of Google TV, putting the TV makers in an awkward position. Read the rest of this entry »

Social Bookmarking Websites: Stepping from peaks to troughs

Posted in Internet, News  by Eric

During the past week, rumors that Yahoo.com was planning to kill off Delicious, one of the most famous social bookmarking website Yahoo acquired in 2005 has been reported by lots of media. A slide from a Yahoo meeting was leaked and it showed that Yahoo was calling “sunset” on Delicious. Now, people would like to know how does the ever “sunrise” social bookmarking websites drop to the troughs.

Coincidently, just 2 months ago, another popular social bookmarking website called Xmarks declared in its blog that they would be shutting down at the end of 2010. Compared with 5 year ago. It seemed that social bookmark service is in the lowest point now.

Birth of social bookmarking websites

According to Wikipedia.com, The concept of shared online bookmarks dates back to April 1996 with the launch of itList, the features of which included public and private bookmarks. Within the next three years, online bookmark services became competitive, with venture-backed companies such as Backflip, Blink, Clip2, ClickMarks, HotLinks, and others entering the market.

They provided folders for organizing bookmarks, and some services automatically sorted bookmarks into folders (with varying degrees of accuracy). Blink included browser buttons for saving bookmarks; Backflip enabled users to email their bookmarks to others and displayed “Backflip this page” buttons on partner websites. Lacking viable revenue models, this early generation of social bookmarking companies failed as the dot-com bubble burst.

In this stage, the popularity of internet is far behind nowadays and the concept of social bookmark is somewhat ahead of the times. During web 1.0 period, the influence of any social media is very limited for ordinary users are not getting used to participate in online social activities at that time. Thus, social bookmarkrking websites can’t achieve great success at their first stage. Read the rest of this entry »

Do not let them grab your balls cores!

Posted in Games, Reviews  by Eric

Enough playing around, there is no place for relaxation and merry making – as in fresh shooter “RED STORM DEFENCE” you have four cores! And you must protect them from hordes of incoming mechanical monsters. The steel beasts try to invade your home nest to steal four red energy cores. Because those cores are peculiar – they are glowing red and attract monsters attention.

Your objective – build defensive turrets to keep the cores untouched. Layout of every level offers various sets of “landscape” and monsters respawn gates. You should choose your strategy according to different elements of level (impregnable columns, fathomless pits) and the gates monsters comes in. Also take into account position of the cores – try to make the way to them as long as possible from any gate. That will be your guarantee of success. As you have more time to stop monsters waves with longer labyrinth of defensive turrets. While effectively using level “landscape” keep in mind that 1 square wide passage must be available for monsters to reach your cores.

There are four types of defensive turrets at your disposal:

- Light AC Tower (cheap way to build long labyrinth defence)

- Light Laser Tower (slows down monsters)

- Light Missile Tower (fires missiles that inflict critical damage)

- Light Artillery Tower (fires with shells that stun monsters) Read the rest of this entry »

Google Adds New Doodle for Christmas

Posted in Internet, News  by Eric

Google has added a new doodle on its home page today to celebrate the holiday .

Lopez told the Wall Street Journal that it took about 250 hours to create the doodles. He personally drew six while the rest were divided up among his staff. Initially, he thought the 17 drawings woudl be staggered over the course of several days, but Google later said they wanted to display them as a group.

Lopez has been chief doodler for 18 months; in 2010 alone, there have been 270 doodles, the Journal said.

Google has become renowned for its regular output of doodles, not just for holidays but also for news events, birthdays, and other special occasions. Past doodles have celebrated the Fourth of July, the Olympics, and even Einstein’s birthday. Each doodle typically plays around with the classic Google logo, transforming it into something that can visually commemorate a special date in time.

Google: never Give Up in Buying Social Buying Sites

Posted in Internet, News  by Eric

After failing to acquire Groupon with a $6 billion bid, Google is in talks with much smaller rivals of the company, according to The New York Post.

According to analysts, Google was eager to acquire Groupon to gain a stronghold in the fast-growing local advertising market.

In two years, Groupon, the Chicago-based firm the, has expanded to 3,100 employees, 35 million users in 300 markets and more than $1 billion in annual revenue. Recently, it announced that it hired Jason Child, a former Amazon vice-president of finance, as its chief financial officer.

LivingSocial may be an attractive alternative for Google. The company raised $183 million this month from Amazon and LightSpeed Ventures, in a deal that valued the company at more than $1 billion. However, the company reiterated its commitment to being independent.

“From the beginning, we have been on a path to be an independent leader in the social commerce space,” Tige Savage, a LivingSocial board member, told DealBook on Dec. 2. “With this Amazon minority investment and partnership, we feel incredibly well positioned in a huge and growing space.”

Besides LivingSocial, there are a couple of notable players in the market. BuyWithMe, based in New York, operates in 12 cities. The company has raised over $20 million since it was founded in 2009. Tippr, owned by software company Kashless, operates in 25 markets.

Local online advertising is expected to grow 18 percent, to $16.1 billion, next year, according to the advertising research firm Borrell Associates.

Free PSP Video Converter Factory Review

Posted in DVD & Video, Reviews  by Eric

The Advantages of Free PSP Video Converter Factory

Factory Free PSP Video Converter Factory is a free video converter. It is an application that was designed for one task: conversion of video files for playback on your PSP. Thus, all the conversion profiles available are optimized for PSP devices. This video converter is totally safe and powerful, you do not have to worry about whether your devices or PC will be attacked by some unsafe factors, and it will help you good converted videos in a high speed. What’s more, This converter's user interface is very nice. When you first launch it, you have some on-screen help that describes the conversion process.

At the bottom of the screen, you have the list of supported devices, and on top of that, you will see the profile settings and a video player. When you start converting a file, you will see the video playing. This isn't really a preview of the conversion process. You can disable the video playback to speed up the process. If you want to speed it up further, you can send the application to the background, so the memory used for the user interface is used in the conversion process. There are some more performance settings that you can play with in the options window. Some Shortcomings That need to be Improved.

However, there are also some disadvantages that I think Free PSP Video Converter Factory need to be improved, I think although Free PSP Video Converter Factory can allow us to see the information of the original video files, it is a little difficult for us to find the information of the original videos, because there are no related button on the product’s interface, I suggest it should add a button on the interface so that users can see the information of the original videos directly.
