The search giant Google has launched an experimental Chrome extension that allows users to automatically block sites they don’t want showing up in Google search result pages.
The extension is called Personal Blocklist, is also a way for the company to gather information about undesirable domains as it works to combat so-called webspam. With Blocklist extension, users could see what sites are blocked and allows them to edit their list by clicking on the adorable block icon in the upper right of their browser. When a site blocked, the extension notifies Google, and it may ultimately use this information to tweak results across its search engine.

In late January, Google launched a search algorithm change designed to demote certain sites that lift content from other sources, and the new Chrome extension takes aim at similar domains.
"We’ve been exploring different algorithms to detect content farms, which are sites with shallow or low-quality content," reads a blog post from Google anti-webspam man Matt Cutts. "One of the signals we’re exploring is explicit feedback from users." Read the rest of this entry »

According to Electronista, Nokia has cancelled plans of its new N900 MeeGo smart phone next week, it rumors that Windows Phone 7 device will replace MeeGo smart phone. “knowledgeable outlets have known it was the N9, a variant on the E7 keyboard slider that might have had the N8’s 12-megapixel camera with MacBook Pro-style looks.”
After comparing his firm to a burning platform, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop didn’t mince his words on MeeGo. “We thought MeeGo would be a platform for winning high-end smart phones. However, at this rate, by the end of 2011, we might have only one MeeGo product in the market,” he said. He express s his disappointment with both their platforms, MeeGo and Symbian, in a memo he wrote to company employees. In the 1,300 word memo, Elop pointed out that they were “standing on burning platforms” and hinted a switch to Windows Phone 7 or Android for the future line of smartphones.
Analysts have been urging the firm to opt for Google Inc.’s Android, or Microsoft Corp.’s WP7, but Nokia has, until now, Nokia declined to comment.

The Catholic Church has approved a virtual confession application for the iPhone. It demonstrates that religions are not willing to be left behind, but in fact are keen to keep up with the latest technology trends. The confessions application itself ensures that practicing Catholics can confess conveniently.

The application, which costs just under $2, will help users understand their earthly sins. It also offers personalized conscience profiling function which operates based on the users age, sex, job and marital status.
A spokesperson from the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales claimed that the tool was a “useful tool to help people prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation” and that by embracing new technology it will allow users “to make a good confession”.
It is thought the approval is an attempt by Catholics to interact with the current digital world.
