Since IE9 was released on Monday night, it has now been downloaded 2.35 million times in the first 24 hours. The latest version of Microsoft Corp.’s Internet Explorer includes a do-not-track tool that helps people keep their online habits from being monitored, according to a report from Wall street Journal.

Microsoft is also including a feature in Internet Explorer 9 called “tracking protection lists,” which will let people prevent specific Web-tracking companies from snooping on their browsing habits.

Internet Explorer is the most widely used browser in the world, and IE9 has been well received thus far, with good reviews and a record-breaking number of downloads while the product was in beta testing.

Got Android? Get Parachute! That’s the message start-up Indie developer Ominous Game Labs is using to promote their first entry into the Android Market with casual action/arcade game, Parachute.

Parachute sees the player taking control of Paraman, a somewhat crazy looking Parachutist, as he attempts to race his way through 40 fun packed levels, dodging platforms, objects and enemies to safely reach the landing pad.

Dominic Birch, Lead Software Developer and co-designer of Parachute, said "The primary focus during development of Parachute was to ensure that players are constantly having fun. We achieved this through a simple tilt control mechanism and by hand crafting each level to provide challenging, addictive game play. In order to achieve high scores, players must complete levels as fast as possible but at the same time carefully control their speed to avoid dying."

"Another of our goals was to provide variety so that players always have something new to discover, hence the 40 levels are split equally over 5 uniquely themed areas, each with their own set of obstacles to avoid. Apple Inc has filed paperwork with the European Trademarks Office seeking to make the famous Granny Smith logos (once seen on Beatles LPs ) its own abroad.

The transfer comes as a result of a 2007 legal settlement between Apple and The Beatles’ parent company Apple Corps. The settlement resolved a long-standing dispute over ownership of the “Apple” trademark by granting Apple all related trademarks, though the company is required to license certain trademarks back to Apple Corps.

Apple’s recent filings cover 14 international trademark classifications in common areas like advertising, games, and computer hardware, and in more obscure ones like precious metals and building construction.

It’s entirely possible Apple (Purple iMac) is merely attempting to ensure nobody gets their hands the iconic logo so thoroughly associated with Apple (Yellow Submarine).

Microsoft has pushed back the release date of the Windows Phone 7 update that adds new functionality. The update had originally been destined to reach users in the first two weeks of March.

"We have the next update waiting in the wings. It delivers copy and paste, better Marketplace search, and other key improvements," said Eric Hautala, Microsoft General Manager of Customer Experience Engineering, in a post on the Windows Phone blog. "But I believe it’s important that we learn all we can from the February update. So I’ve decided to take some extra time to ensure the update process meets our standards, your standards, and the standards of our partners. As a result, our plan is to start delivering the copy-and-paste update in the latter half of March."

Even with the changes, Hautala adds the “short pause” does not change the launch time frame of the much larger update, Microsoft promised it would add features like multitasking, Twitter integration and an HTML5-based version of Internet Explorer Mobile. Read the rest of this entry »

Apple released a new version of its mobile operating system iOS 4.3 on Wednesday. It is available for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. The update is already available via iTunes. This update contains many new features and improvements including a faster Safari performance, new AirPlay features and more.
