Windows 7 Software Compatibility Testing - Paint.NET

Posted in Photograph & Graphics, Reviews  by Lucas Artigas

I can state without fear of being wrong that most of us have used Paint at least once. As simple as it is, the drawing tool included in Windows falls really short before other commercial graphics editing programs like Photoshop or Corel Draw. But, what if we put both worlds together in a single program? And what if we really get greedy and ask for it to be free?

Paint.NET is an amazing piece of freeware which is drawing the attention of more and more users who need to get fast, professional yet easy-to-use solutions for image and photo editing without getting lost in the complexity of other graphic editors like Adobe's. So, what is it that makes of Pain.NET such a powerful app? Well, the list of features and perks is really endless, but just to mention a few I can tell you that Paint.NET brings an innovative and easy to understand interface, layers support, unlimited undo and redo capabilities and an incredible capability to apply effects.

Paint.NET also comes with automated image optimization tools including color adjustment, red-eye removal and greyscale or sepia conversion, and you can also perform more advanced tweaks in a full manual way. An interesting detail is that when you have several images open you can have thumbnail preview. But, above all, what is more important is that Paint.NET can carry out all of its functions at really low resources consumption.

Of course there are a lot of other various solid and handy tools, you can check this article at HandyWare for further reading, and here for a list of novelties and bug fixes for the latest version. Read the rest of this entry »

Windows 7 Software Compatibility Testing - ACDSee

Posted in Photograph & Graphics, Reviews  by Lucas Artigas

What you are about to read is the result of testing ACDSee Photo Manager 2009 under Microsoft's latest operating system, Windows 7. In order to introduce ACDSee, I may tell you that it is a powerful image viewer with a classic appearance, inherited from its illustrious predecessors. ACDSee Photo Manager 2009 is undoubtedly a solid option to view, edit and organize not only photographs but also video and audio files. As a graphics viewer, ACDSee is unsurpassed in its ability to decode and display images as quickly as possible, even several times faster than many other viewers.

ACDSee is compatible with an impressive number of formats and it comes equipped with many useful tools, it also runs surprisingly smooth and quickly in most PCs. Some improvements were applied to this version such as copying or recording original versions on CD / DVD, which, I think, are really interesting developments.

ACDSee's excellent support for metadata joins fairly advanced editing capabilities, with a lot of filters and a series of wizards that create from thumbnails of all photos contained in a folder to Powerpoint presentations. A series of filters can help you to organize your content in different ways: category to which the image belongs, personal value, information stored in metadata (author, camera, date …), size, file format, etc. If you work with compressed files, you will appreciate how easily ACDSee Photo Manager allows you to browse them as folders. So, let’s see how it behaves when installed and run under Windows 7 environment.

Installation & First Run
The setup procedure was not complicated but somewhat long and implied too many decisions to take and some additional options to choose from. Anyway, regarding what we want to test today, which is incompatibilities and hitches, ACDSee installation, presented not a single one. Read the rest of this entry »

Photobie - More Than Amazing Photo Editor

Posted in Photograph & Graphics, Reviews  by Manoj Goel

Photo editing is not just required by DTP professionals. It is also required by almost every computer user sometime. I am not a DTP professional but still regularly use photo editing tools to edit and enhance my photos for personal use and for websites. I had tried lots of photo editing tools both freeware and high-end commercial software but finally I settled down on Photobie. It is not a heavy photo editor that demands for heavy system resources as compared to its heavy features. Its bucket of features that are easy to use has forced me to stay on Photobie.

Simple but easy to use Interface
Photobie is flooded with lots of great features but its main interface is not so impressive, especially its standard toolbar is looking something odd. And its Layer Manager panel that should be embedded in main window; remains visible on the top of main window as a separate small window that create hurdle and hide a small part of the image. Situation is worse when I need to edit an image of larger size. All other things are well placed. At the bottom it shows thumbnails of all open images that makes my work further easier and save lots of time. In the dropdown menus almost all features are well managed and explained properly. Posted in Photograph & Graphics, Reviews  by Yuki

We have to say, more and more image editors or managers are flourishing, among those Picasa is now presently regarded as the most ideal little helper for those photo enthusiasts. But in today's article, I will lead you into another new but also effective 3D zone. That is Pictomio brings for us. What you want it to, it really works. Organize photos, photo marking, tagging and Geo-tagging, let's now see how the Pictomio makes us special and unique.

Multi Management
Marked as an image organizer, the multi management is relatively basic and essential. With so many photos and videos saved in your computer, you just need a real practical manager. Pictomio collects and organizes those files in a very clean and tidy manner. Images are not only grouped by time, size, but also the orientation, types are included. At the same time, we personally can rate them directly and they would be at the same time organized by rating. Thousands of digital intensive photos get ordered and visual. Video management is the same. Thumbnail preview helps you with a better glance at a whole collection. As you like, files displays either in the above-mentioned thumbnails or file formats.
